Is your insurance valid?
As a CHAS contractor or supplier we would like to make you aware that we have been
working with an Insurance Broker for 2 years assessing what, if any, benefits arise
from being CHAS registered when seeking your annual premiums for liability.
We have established that Insurers have recognized the work we do in auditing our
suppliers and we are pleased to tell you it can reduce your premium in most cases.
Our research surprised us at how many suppliers were not even sure if they are covered
to work on the contracts they tender for. It became more apparent in the current climate
when it is difficult to secure new contracts and suppliers are buying the cheapest quote offered.
You should remember that running your own companies has its responsibilities and so is
ensuring your staff or Bona-Fide suppliers are covered under your policy.
We take pride in our achievements over the last 15 years and we have earned a high level
of respect in our field of health and safety prequalification. In improving our service
, insurance has become an important area in which we would ask companies to consider
their obligations in assuring that their insurance is regularly maintained, and if
they are considering diverting their business in a different area of expertise they
should then notify their insurer before they engage any work.
Here we have a few examples of the problems we have found from our research:
- In Greater Manchester a potential client asked E&G to give him a like for like quotation. They were paying around £2k for their current Insurance premium.
After taking all their details, it became apparent there was a problem as E&G could not get a price anywhere near their premium.
The Broker asked the client to send in their current Insurance schedule to see what they were insured for. It came to light that the reason the client had been paying a cheaper premium was because he had not been insured correctly. His “manual employees“ had not been included on his current policy. The client was totally unaware and was very thankful that E&G had noticed this. As a result, the client cancelled his Insurance policy at renewal and incepted our Broker’s quotation.
- In West Midlands having collated all the client details in preparation to give him a quotation for his liability Insurance, it came to light that this client was totally unaware that he had been incorrectly insured for the previous year. His trade description was down as a General Builder who worked on Commercial new builds, but the client did Property Maintenance and Window Fitting. The client did have to pay slightly more to be correctly insured, but this gave him the peace of mind he was looking for.
- In Worcestershire, this client was covered elsewhere and contacted E&G as his policy was due for renewal. Again they could not get near the target premium that the client had provided.
They asked the client to send in his current schedule and it showed them that the client was only covered to” clean drains” but not to “maintain them “which was a major part of their work. After pointing this out to the client and advising him to go back to his current insurer and ask them for a quotation including the policy to “maintain drains” his renewal price increased to around the same price as E&G was offering the client. The client decided to take on E&G policy when it came to renewal as he was happy with the service that they had provided
Please note we are not permitted to advise you on any of your insurance policies.
At this moment in time we do not review insurance policies on our annual assessments as it
is your responsibility to maintain cover. If you are not sure then contact your insurance
